Precious Things explores that which we consider precious – be it objects such as heirlooms, keepsakes, photos, or more intangible things; love, time, family. It also aims to challenge our other perceptions of ‘precious’ – beauty and wealth. It questions what beauty is – externally and internally, and also asks us to look at the fragility of precious things, and though we strive to preserve the things that we cherish, sometimes letting go is equally as important. The collection takes its name from the song ‘Precious Things’ by Tori Amos and the narrative of the pieces is performed as a ballet set to this music.
